WHAT IS

18K gold PVD?

At CIENNA BROOKLYN, we believe jewelry should be beautiful and built to last. That’s why our gold pieces are finished using 18k Gold PVD — one of the most durable, high-end coating methods in the industry.

PVD stands for Physical Vapor Deposition — a high-tech method that transforms solid 18k gold into a fine vapour. That vapour attaches to the jewelry base at a microscopic level, forming a durable, long-lasting gold layer. We use this method because it creates pieces that can handle real life — water, sweat, daily wear, and everything in between.

Why PVD Lasts Longer Than Standard Plating

Traditional plating uses liquids and chemicals that place gold onto the surface, which will fade and chip with time.

PVD is different. It’s engineered to last.

PVD uses heat and vacuum technology to fuse gold onto the metal more securely.

With 18k Gold PVD, you get:

  • Real 18k gold bonded at the molecular level

  • A tougher, more wear-resistant finish

  • Colour that stays bright and golden longer

  • Waterproof, sweat-proof durability

  • A cleaner, low-waste coating process

Perfect for jewelry designed to be worn

all day, every day.

How We Apply Our 18k Gold PVD Finish

Each CIENNA BROOKLYN piece is

created through a multi-layer system designed

for beauty and longevity.

1. Stainless Steel Base

A strong, corrosion-resistant foundation that supports everyday wear.

2. Titanium Bond Layer

A thin titanium layer helps the gold vapour adhere securely and increases the coating’s durability.

3. 18k Gold PVD Layer

Solid 18k gold is heated, turned into vapour, and deposited in a vacuum chamber.

This fuses the gold to the titanium layer, creating a long-lasting, high-shine finish.

Our process is nickel-free.
